Starting his 6th season as conductor is Doug Harris. Doug is a life-long musician and member of Rocky Mountain Brassworks since 1978 as a performer in the trombone section. Doug is a retired band and orchestra instructor, having taught in the Denver metro area for 34 years. He graduated in 1974 with a B.A. in music education from the University of Northern Colorado where he studied conducting with Wayman Walker and trombone with Buddy Baker. Doug received his Masters Degree from the American Band College at Southern Oregon University in 1999 studying with Tim Lautzenheiser, Johann DeMei, W. Frances McBeth, and Alfred Reed. Doug’s high school bands travelled and performed all over the United states and Europe. Doug is currently a member of National Association for Music Education, American School Band Director’s Association, Colorado Music Educator’s Association, and Colorado Bandmasters Association. Doug is frequently called upon as a clinician and to adjudicate at festivals and contests.
Doug is a freelance musician in the Denver metro area and a member of Denver Musicians Local 20-623. Some of the groups that he has played with include; Tromboniacs, the Brico Symphony, the Greeley Philharmonic, Bill Ricker Dance Band, T-Bone trombone choir, Colorado Brass Band, Bronco Band, Jefferson Philharmonic, Lakewood Symphony, the Classical Brass Quintet, Too Many Trombones-trombone choir, Denver Pops Orchestra and of course, the Rocky Mountain Brassworks.
